Matinee with Marina Tarkowskaja

Reading from „Splitter des Spiegels – Die Familie des Andrej Tarkowski“ („Fragments of a Mirror – The Family of Andrej Tarkovskij“)

Caligari: 25. 04. / 11 a.m.

Hosted by: Martina Mrochen
Followed by “The Mirror” by Andrej Tarkovskij

On April 25th at 11.00 am, goEast presents its traditional Sunday-Matinee with a reading by Marina Tarkowskaja at the Caligari FilmBühne in Wiesbaden. Two films by Russian director Andrej Tarkovskij, THE MIRROR (USSSR 1974) and NOSTALGHIA (Italy/USSSR 1983) will be shown as Specials during the festival. In her highly personal book, Marina Tarkowskaja remembers her childhood with her famous – but mostly absent – father, the poet Arsenij, and her brilliant, headstrong brother Andrej Tarkovskij, offering us a unique glimpse into Tarkovskij’s personal life. She recounts formerly unknown facts and formative events that later became themes and symbols in his films. With short episodes – fragments of everyday life – Marina Tarkowskaja recounts a childhood in Moscow, the pre-war years, the deprivations of war and the hard times that followed. Little by little she completes a mirror which reflects her family life, using the editing-technique of her brother’s famous film THE MIRROR. Marina Tarkowskaja’s book succeeds in telling an extraordinary and at the same time typical history of a family in 20th century Russia. „Splitter des Spiegels“ is published by edition ebersbach (2003).
