At half-time, goEast honours award winners of the Students’ Competition

Successful start: goEast welcomes 160 guests from many countries in Wiesbaden. Nearly 5,000 visitors attended the screenings and the side bar programme in the first four days of the festival. The programme will end on April 11 with a grand award ceremony in the festival cinema Caligari FilmBühne.

With the selection of the awards for the Students’ Competition on Saturday night, goEast goes into its second round. Selected by audience vote, the winners in the goEast Students’ Competition are young directors from film classes in Sarajevo, Bucharest and Wiesbaden. The top awards were won by the documentary film HALID BUNIC – VJECNI / HALID BUNIC – THE ETERNAL (Director: Damir Nemir Janecek from the Academy of Performing Arts Sarajevo – ASU), the short feature film ON WEDNESDAYS / SRIJEDOM (Director: Alma Becirovic from the Academy of Performing Arts Sarajevo – ASU) and the animated film MR. SCHWARTZ, MR. HAZEN & MR. HORLOCKER (director: Stefan Müller from the University of Applied Sciences Wiesbaden).

In the Students’ Competition film classes from Bucharest, Sarajevo, Berlin, the Rhine-Main Area around Wiesbaden and Kassel presented their works. The awards in the three categories documentaries, short feature films and experimental films and animated films endowed with € 1,000 will be provided for the first time by the BHF-BANK Foundation, as well as the new BHF-BANK Foundation Award (€ 1.,500), which goes to the best entry of a foreign film class. A three-person jury shall elect the winner who will be announced and receive the award on April 11 at the film festival award ceremony.

The programme of the early days of the festival was a big hit with visitors in Wiesbaden and with our international guests. 160 international guests and 80 journalists followed our invitation to Wiesbaden. Audience favourites included events with the prominent Russian writer and film journalist Victor Erofeyev and the concert of the spectacular Russian cult band “Leningrad“. The events held for the goEast School Film Days also met with a positive response. Saturday also was the final day of the very successful scientific symposium „Mainstream Made in Russia“.

goEast is organized by the Deutsches Filminstitut – DIF, and is made possible above all due to the sponsorship of the “hessen-media” state initiative and of the City of Wiesbaden, capital of the state of Hesse.
