  KRAJINKA / THE LANDSCAPE

KRAJINKA / THE LANDSCAPE
CZECH REPUBLIC, SLOVAKIA 2000
DIRECTOR: Martin Sulik, 110 MIN

A panorama of loosely connected episodes, spanning the last 70 years. The narrator’s ironic commentary suggests that the film is about the fate of a small country (Slovakia, although this is never said directly). Political or societal processes are only the outer framework of these episodes. The protagonists are little people, whose stories are symbolically mirrored in Slovakia’s history. In a tragic-comical way, social and historic handicaps, but also longings for love and freedom take the stage. In the end, all of this is about a poetical love-hate-relationship with the “Krajinka”.
