TOMORROW'S
WEATHER / POGODA NA JUTRO
POLAND 2003
DIRECTED BY: JERZY STUHR,94 MIN
Twelve years ago, Jozéf Koziol (played by Jerzy Stuhr), a married
man with three kids, entered a monastery. When he steps in for a sick
priest at a concert, his wife recognizes him – and a scandal ensues.
He is thrown out of the monastery and now tries to get in touch with his
family. But while he was living as “Brother Joséf”
behind thick walls, the world around him changed – not just Poland’s
political system, but also ethical and moral values, the media and a lot
more: Jozéf’s Son Marcin (played by Jerzy Stuhr’s son
Maciej) works for the election-campaign of a shady politician; his oldest
daughter Ola lives in a glass-container, with an entire nation of television-viewers
watching her every move; Kinga, the youngest, is only interested in the
internet and her drug-dealer boyfriend. Joséf’s wife has
taken up with a criminal who finances her comfortable lifestyle. So there
is a lot to do for the absentee father who now moves into his own garage
to be close to his family. His son gets him a job as the politician’s
driver. At first, it is difficult for him to get close to his kids, then
he creates a lot of chaos – all family-members end up in the hospital
at some point – but in the end this tragic comedy seems to be making
a happier turn. Maybe tomorrow the weather will be good, after all.
