NO HOLIDAY
FOR INOCHKIN / DOBRO POALOVAT´, ILI POSTORONNIM VHOD VOSPREŠCJON
USSR 1964
Directed by: Elem Klimov, 74 MIN
Rated 6 years or older
Klimov’s 1964 film was judged „anti-soviet“ and banned
shortly after its creation; only in times of Perestroika was it shown
to the public. The eminent director’s debut is an amusing comedy
and – at the same time – an acerbic satire on a Stalinist
pedant’s authoritarian regime. In a holiday camp for young soviet
“pioneers”, overseer Dynin terrorizes the kids. When the popular
Kostja secretly swims to the other side of the river, Dynin throws him
out of the camp. Because Kostja fears that his grandmother would not survive
such shameful news, he goes into hiding…
