Looking back at goEast 2002

In the course of seven days, 127 films from 22 countries were presented, including 44 feature-length films and 3 world and 5 Germany premières. The number of visitors was considerably enlarged. 5,000 visitors attended the screenings in 2002, and the Festival was happy to welcome 350 professional visitors from Germany and abroad.
15 current productions from 12 countries competed for the awards with a prize money total of € 27,500. The international five-member Jury under the chairmanship of Georgian director Nana Džordžadze came to the following decisions: The Award for Best Film with a prize-money of € 10,000 (sponsored by Deutsches Filminstitut) went to HI, TERESKA, a Polish production directed by Robert Glinski. The Award for Best Direction (€ 7,500 sponsored by the City of Wiesbaden) went to Slovenian director Vojko Anzeljc for his film THE LAST SUPPER. The new Hertie-Foundation Documentary Award (endowed with € 10,000) was given to the Macedonian film JOY OF LIFE by Svetozar Ristovski. A Special Jury Award (€ 2,500 sponsored by the City of Wiesbaden) went to the Romanian production PHILANTROPIC by Nae Caranfil. The Audience Awards for the Best Student Films in the categories "Documentary and Experimental Film", "Short Subject" and "Animation Film" (€ 750 each, donated by TaunusFilm Produktion and Mitteleuropäische Handelsbank) went to I COULD HAVE BEEN HUMAN by Barbara Medajska and to A MAN THING by Slavomir Fabicki, both from the PWSFTViT Lodz, as well as to ROCKS by Chris Stenner, Arvid Uibel and Heidi Wittlinger who study at the FABW Ludwigsburg.
3sat, the media partner of goEast, has been bought TINGLING BLUES, a film from the opening program as well as HI TERESKA, which has won the Award for Best Film. Apart from that Arte has bought the Uzbekian competition entry DILHIROJ and did broadcast the winner of the student competition in the category of "Short Subject" A MAN THING.
