SPECIALS

In addition to the Competition, the Symposium, the Highlights and the Students’ Films, goEast offers several special series and events. Under the title “A Look to the East”, goEast and ZDF/Das kleine Fernsehspiel present five new German films. In the last few years, Hans-Christian Schmid, Henner Winckler and other young German directors have shifted their attention more and more towards countries like Poland and the Czech Republic. Their films are not only about and set in Central and Eastern Europe; they were filmed there with multinational crews. We will focus on their experiences on a panel called “The EU enlargement and the potential for co-production”. Again, we will host the “School Film Days”, which premiered last year to great success and address school classes from Wiesbaden and surrounding areas. With Elem Klimov’s NO HOLIDAY FOR INOCHKIN, the series remembers the great director (he died last fall), whose FAREWELL TO MATYORA is also shown during the festival. In addition, the specials also offer two extraordinary films by Andrej Tarkovskij – his classics THE MIRROR and NOSTALGHIA –, a matinee with his sister Marina Tarkowskaja who will read from her book „Splitter des Spiegels“ and an exhibition of newly discovered Polaroids, taken by Tarkovskij in Russia and Italy.
