Students´ Section

Since its premiere in 2001, the Students’ Films competition – a three-day-long short-film competition – has proved to be a favourite with the audience. The goEast Students’ Film Award goes to the best entry in the categories documentary or experimental film, short feature and animation film. All three awards are endowed with € 750 (sponsored by HypoVereinsbank) and will be awarded by the audience.
The following academies and universities participate this year: the State Academy for Theatre and Cinematic Arts – NATFA from Sofia, Bulgaria; the Academy for Performing Arts – ADU from Zagreb, Croatia; the Academy of the Arts Hamburg – HfbK; the Faculty for Design of the Bauhaus-University Weimar – BUW; the Film Class of the Academy of the Applied Arts at the Johannes-Gutenberg-University Mainz; the University for Design Offenbach; the department of Media Design at the University of Applied Sciences Mainz; the department for Design at the University of Applied Sciences Wiesbaden and the University of the Arts Kassel.

NEXT GENERATION 2003
The Export-Union of German Films presents this short film program which had its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival 2003. It is a representative cross-section of films that were created at German film schools – including the works of Wiesbaden’s own Andreas Krein and Sven Martin. In addition, we also show the film ROCKS / DAS RAD which was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Animated Short in 2003.
