goEast goes HERUS: Films from Russia
17-19 October 2003

goEast, the Festival of Middle and Eastern European Film, will present a series of Russian films at the Hessian-Russian Cultural Festival initiated by HERUS e.V. The screenings are intended to accompany this year's focus of the Frankfurt Book Fair and are well-timed halfway between last and next year's goEast Festival.
Contemporary as well as historic cinematic art from Russia has been an integral part of the goEast programme right from the beginning. That is why a co-operation with HERUS suggested itself.
This small-scale but representative series does not only offer insight into cinematic reflections on history; it also presents directors who take a critical look at today's world and tries to convey an idea of the poetry and imaginativeness, the myths and rhythms – in short: of the powerful aesthetics of Russian cinema.

The programme will be opened by the Head of the cultural department of the city of Wiesbaden Rita Thies and Festival Director Claudia Dillmann on Friday, October 17th at 8 p.m.
